Best Restaurants in Chandigarh

A friend once dragged me to Pal Dhaba at 2 in the afternoon on a Tuesday. The place was packed. Dal makhani, butter naan, lassi so thick you almost needed a spoon. Total bill for four people — under ₹600. That’s Chandigarh’s food scene in one anecdote. You don’t need a big budget to eat really well here.

That said, knowing where the deals actually are — and which ones are worth it — takes a bit of local knowledge. Here’s what we’ve seen work.

Where Most People Eat Wrong in Chandigarh

Sector 17 gets all the tourist attention, and it deserves some of it. But walking straight into the first restaurant you see there is usually how you end up paying ₹400 for mediocre food. The better strategy — walk slightly off the main plaza. The lanes behind Sector 17 have smaller dhabas and cafes that serve better food for half the price. Locals know this. Tourists don’t.

Sector 35 is genuinely underrated. It’s quieter, parking is easier, and you’ll find everything from proper Punjabi thali spots to decent Chinese and a few cafes that actually know how to make coffee. If you’re in the area around dinner, give it a shot before defaulting to Sector 17.

Restaurants Worth Your Money Right Now

Barbeque Nation runs weekday lunch deals that knock 25–30% off the regular buffet price. If you haven’t been — it’s a live grill format, all you can eat, and the starters alone are worth it. Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Avoid weekends unless you enjoy waiting 45 minutes for a table.

Nik Baker’s has quietly become one of the most reliable spots in the city. Multiple locations, consistent sandwiches, good coffee, and they run a loyalty card that actually adds up. Nothing flashy — just dependable.

For proper Punjabi food without any pretense, Sindhi Sweets in Sector 17 remains untouchable. Chole bhature for under ₹80. Kachori that sells out by noon. The sweet counter alone is worth a visit.

Elante Mall’s food court is useful when you’re with a group that can’t agree on anything — which, honestly, describes most family outings. The variety handles everyone and the pricing is fair for a mall setting.

Getting Better Deals on Apps

Zomato and Swiggy are genuinely useful in Chandigarh — the delivery network here is solid, and the platform deals can be significant. First-order discounts of 40–50% are common. The trick most people miss is that these apps also discount dine-in bookings through their table reservation feature. Dineout is good for pre-negotiated rates at sit-down restaurants, particularly for weekend dinners where walk-in pricing is at its highest.

Don’t sleep on restaurant-specific apps either. Pizza chains, Barbeque Nation, and several cafes in the tricity run their own loyalty programs that aggregate into real savings over a few months.

New Areas Opening Up

The Airport Road corridor and the stretch toward IT Park in Mohali have seen several new restaurants open in the last year. Launch promotions — complimentary starters, flat first-month discounts — are common when a new place opens. Worth keeping an eye on. The area caters heavily to the working crowd, so lunch deals especially tend to be competitive.

Chandigarh’s food scene keeps getting better. The baseline quality — even at a basic dhaba — is higher here than in most comparable Indian cities. That’s not marketing language, it’s just what you notice when you spend time here.

Keep checking back. We update this list as new places open and old deals change.
